These days I'm trying to think twice before I invest in new makeup - I cleaned out my stash last week and realized I was only using about half of all of the cosmetics I owned, and I had accumulated more than I would be able to use before its shelf life expired.
Let's face it - it's easy to collect too much. I'm always interested in trying new things and most of the time if it doesn't end up in the regular beauty rotation, I don't return it, it just sits gathering dust until I do another purge!
So while I was doing the edit, my lovable (but huge) dog jumped up on the bed and knocked off my favorite highlighter, smashing it to bits. Naturally she didn't destroy the things I no longer wanted, just one of my essentials - argh! After I got over the disappointment, I realized I now had a valid excuse to go and buy a new one - yay!!
I'd been using Mary-Lou Manizer from The Balm (I know, old-school - but it worked for me). My skin is quite fair so I can't pull off super-sparkly or too high wattage highlighters. I found a new favorite in Laura Mercier's Matte Radiance Highlighter - it's incredibly subtle and adds a super-natural glow without being too sparkly (definitely a plus if you're like me and don't want to accentuate little wrinkles and imperfections).
And of course while I was at Sephora I had to walk through the entire store trying to find the highlighter (tee-hee) - I'm proud that I didn't end up bringing home a whole new bag of makeup! I did find an amazing new two-in-one liner/lipstick from Bobbi Brown - the Art Stick in Bare. It is AMAZING! Great texture and coverage with a creamy but matte finish that doesn't dry out the lips like many matte lipsticks do. - definitely a new favorite!
And last but not least, I've jumped on the brow bandwagon and found a great tinted brow mascara from NYX. This brow enhancer works just as well as the more expensive brands and is under $10 - amazing value. I hadn't tried any of NYX's products yet but I'm definitely going to explore their other products now.
What about you? Do you have a pile of makeup that you don't use regularly - or do you wait until you've run out of something before you invest in more? I have a feeling I might not be the only one... ;-)
